Your energy efficiency label conform the European Directive

A Home Energy Efficiency Label (HEEL) is a required document at the sale of your home, by decree of the European Directove 2002/91/EC. The objective of this Directive is to "promote the improvement of the energy performance of buildings within the Community, taking into account outdoor climatic and local conditions, as well as indoor climate requirements and cost-effectiveness." These considerations are further amplified in the European Directive 2006/32/EC.

2002/91/EC describes a holistic approach for a common methodology to determine energy efficiency. For the efficiency of heating it looks at building insulation including orientation and position, surrounding buildings and trees, and the local climate. Up to now, it has been proposed to do so through inspection by recognized energy advisors. Costs: 200-400 euro.

An new approach is described in a recently patented HEEL for an accurate determination of the energy efficiency "all-in" including position, environment and climate, by correlation of energy usage and the outside temperature in accord with Fourier's Law of heat transfer. Our HEEL can be readily determined on the basis of meter readings over 12 intervals or more, e.g., weekly during periods when heating is important. In a mathematical formula, the meter readings are compared with local outside temperatures given by nearby stations of the national weather service.

On the basis of the US Patent 7,636,666, an official certificate for HEEL can be acquired for € 59,50 (inclusief BTW). Because no inspection is required, the privacy of your home is fully guaranteed.

Insight in energy efficiency in SI units and the 3-color advice

1. The HEE value is expressed in Nm3/day/degree Celsius. The HEEL is herewith traceable to international SI standards on the basis of certified measurement equipment (your energy meter en stations of the national weather service). It produces a reliable measure for possible savings (costs) upon lowering (increasing) the inside temperature with 1 degree Celsius.

2. The HEE value is compared with a norm, which results in a 3-color advice: green, blue or red, for above, average or underperforming energy performance. Green gives you the 'peace of mind' that your energy efficiency is fine with no need for further action. Blue indicates that further action is possibly useful but does not appear to be necessary. With the outcome red, you are advised to contact an energie adviseur for information of causes and possible energy saving measures.
